Jennifer: Control and Test Engineer

I joined CML in May 2018 straight from my PhD at the University of Cambridge, where I worked on band edge lasing in chiral nematic liquid crystals.

I am a Control and Test Engineer at CML, working on the performance of our technology for mobile phone camera projects. My daily routine varies a lot depending on the stage of the project, but is typically some combination of designing, running, and analysing tests, meaning I work in python, matlab, and hands on with test equipment every day. Our work is very interdisciplinary, so as well as discussing results and plans with other members of the performance team, I often work closely with the electronics and mechanical teams.

I grew up in Derby, studied Physics at the University of St Andrews, and later joined the Photonic Systems Development Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Cambridge and UCL.

I really enjoy the environment at CML. Everyone knows each other and it’s a very sociable company. Every day is interesting, and it’s a very supportive place to work.
