Cambridge Mechatronics Wins "Technology Company of the Year" Award

Cambridge Mechatronics Ltd (CML) has been honoured with the prestigious "Technology Company of the Year" award at the 2024 Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards.

This award, which took place on 16th May, recognises our transformative year and innovations with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuator technology. We achieved significant milestones, including shipping a record number of actuators, raising over $40 million in an oversubscribed funding round, and started chip qualifications for our expansion into the semiconductor sector.

The competition in this category was particularly strong, with CML standing out among notable finalists including Pragmatic Semiconductor, Nu Quantum, Cellular Origins, Plextek, and Secondmind. Pragmatic set up a new print line which was opened by HRH The Princess Royal and were the “highly recommended” nomination in our category. Secondmind has received significant investment from Mazda for its AI application in car design and manufacturing. Each of these companies has demonstrated remarkable success making the award win even more significant for CML.

In January 2024, CML secured over $40 million in funding from prominent investors, including Atlantic Bridge, Intel Capital, and Sony Innovation Fund. This substantial investment is being used to expand CML's SMA actuator and controller IC product portfolios, further driving SMA applications into other sectors, including healthcare and AR/VR. CML has also recently announced the opening of a new R&D centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. This facility aims to advance the company's control algorithms and firmware optimisation, leveraging Denmark's renowned engineering talent. This strategic expansion is set to bolster CML's capabilities in developing next-generation SMA actuator solutions.

With these achievements, CML continues to solidify its position as a leader in the technology industry, driving forward with innovative solutions and strategic growth initiatives. Our success is driven by our amazing team, whose passion and hard work are key to our achievements. Thank you all!
