HONOR launches the first sub-10mm foldable phone
Honor is launching its 3rd generation folded handset HONOR Magic V2 in Europe on 26th January 2024. This follows the handset release in China in July 2023 and a product presentation at IFA in Berlin on 1st September 2023, affirming its commitment to the global market.
The HONOR Magic V2 offers a folded phone form-factor that is as slim and lightweight as a typical flagship smartphone. The phone is 9.9mm thick in its folded state (4.7mm unfolded) and weighs just 231 grams. The Magic V2 has a triple camera configuration with the 50MP f/1.9 wide camera featuring OIS in the main camera for the first time in the folded Magic V handset series.
The Magic V2 also sports a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide camera and a 20MP f/2.4 2.5x optical zoom telephoto camera with OIS. Introducing OIS into the largest image sensor format camera enables improved image quality, especially in low light conditions. The phone also contains a new titanium hinge and Silicon-Carbon dual-battery technology which helps to achieve the low thickness and mass.
SMA actuator technology is well suited for folded handsets due to its compact size, low z-height and lack of electromagnetic interference (EMI), especially critical when magnetic technology is used in the handset. The SMA Lens Shift OIS actuator from Cambridge Mechatronics Ltd is a mature product and has shipped in over 45 million handsets to date.
