CML in Top 50 UK Patent Applicants

The IPO is the UK government body responsible for intellectual property rights including patents, designs, trademarks and copyright. It is tasked with checking that IP-related applications satisfy strict criteria, such as whether they are new and inventive. Their priority is to help make the UK become the most ‘innovative and creative country in the world’.

Every year the IPO releases a detailed report describing patent activity in the UK. In the most recent publication, the IPO state that 20,931 applications were filed, 12,061 published and 5,982 granted. Additionally, the IPO released their annual list of 50 companies with the most IP-related activity in the UK.

Cambridge Mechatronics is placed in the list of the top 50 companies based on UK patent applications, joining other leading-edge technology companies such as Rolls-Royce and ARM.

As an IP licensing business, CML has an ongoing programme to increase the size of its patent portfolio which already stands at over 200 granted patents. CML expects to grow its patent portfolio in the coming years as it continues to develop and grow its business.
