Joshua: Mechanical Engineer
I joined CML in 2018 following two years as a mechanical engineer at a nearby consultancy. I work in the mechanical engineering team and have been developing new products for CML which leverage the unique knowhow CML has with SMA actuators.
I grew up in Worcestershire then studied engineering at the University of Cambridge. I studied a mix of topics including mechanical, materials, and electromechanical modules – this has been great for working at CML where you can easily jump from doing some CAD to developing mathematical models of a system to writing code to execute tests within the same day. There are some very experienced engineers in all disciplines which is a great learning opportunity.
We are rapidly growing, and with that there are many of opportunities in the new products team. Alongside existing camera technology we are working on haptics, 3D face recognition and augmented reality. There is something for everyone.
The atmosphere here is brilliant. As a keen squash player I’ve enjoyed learning a little table tennis and some lunchtime excursions to the nearby Jesus Green tennis courts. I am looking forward to seeing some of the new products mature and become the next big thing for CML.
