We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious engineers to join our growing team of world-class engineers who will make their mark on our smart actuator technology. The role will report to the Algorithm Development Group Manager who heads up our team responsible for our control solutions.

You will enjoy being a hands-on problem solver, given a problem to solve, you will own your work to go from gathering measurements to characterise the issue, propose a solution, prototype the solution, evaluate its effectiveness and communicate your work to stakeholders at all levels.

Work collaboratively within the team of mechanical, control, electronics, firmware engineers and physicists at CML to build on the proprietary SMA actuator system and control algorithms that CML has developed to meet the needs of the market.
Become a subject matter expert in the control and design of SMA devices.
Contribute to the development of new products based on CML’s existing technologies & expand the company’s portfolio through:
Participating in concept generation for new mechanical designs.
Developing control solutions for new designs based on existing solutions and making any necessary additions/ improvements.
Prototyping new solutions (in simulation or firmware)
Hands on testing new mechanical designs & tuning their control.
Developing new test capabilities where no solution currently exists.
Setting product specifications to meet market needs.
Participate in marketing new designs to manufacturers.
Improve on CML’s existing technologies to keep the company at the forefront of miniature actuator solutions.
Essential skills and experience
A good degree in Engineering/Physical Science
Previous experience in developing technology or technology transfer
Strong skills in experimental design and analysis
Experience contributing to real time micro controllers in C.
Experience developing control solutions.
Strong software skills, in at least one of C, C#, MATLAB and Python.
A working understanding of electronics hardware
- A working understanding of mechanical systems and experience in testing them
Desirable skills and experience
Experience delivering control solutions in a commercial setting – preferably in consumer electronics.
> 2 years developing control solutions in a commercial setting.
Formal education in control and control theory.
Experience of delivering into manufacturing environments.
Contribution to version controlled software/firmware projects, preferably using Git.
Able to demonstrate you are a strong team player and can effectively interact and work with other technical teams. Strong analytical skills and a passion for technology are also expected.
Self-motivated, able to prioritise activities and allocation of resource and have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Experience of working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with the ability to assimilate information and requests from multiple sources is essential.
