Our innovative SMA actuators, developed by CML, have the potential to enhance the performance of AR glasses without increasing their size, and address overall system power consumption challenges. We will be showcasing our technology at CES from January 5th-8th 2023 and look forward to meeting customers who will benefit from the advantages of SMA technology in AR/VR development.
Augmented reality (AR) glasses have the potential to change the way we live and work, but there are several challenges that must be overcome before they can become mainstream. These challenges include making the glasses comfortable, affordable, and stylish, as well as ensuring they offer an immersive and useful experience. Key areas of focus for AR glasses include the display and optical sensing technology, such as cameras.
CML's technology has a variety of applications in AR and VR products. Our existing portfolio of optical image stabilisation and autofocus products has been specifically designed for use in cameras, and our revolutionary zero-hold power technology, which focuses optics using minimal power, can be applied to both displays and cameras. Our SMA actuators can also improve display resolution through mechanical wobulation and enhance depth mapping resolution through scanning.
With the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, stating that "AR is a profound technology that will affect everything," the future looks bright for AR technology. CML's SMA actuators are just one piece of the puzzle, and we are excited to see how our technology will shape the future of AR and VR.
About CML: Cambridge Mechatronics Limited (CML) is a world-leading developer of mechanical, optical, electrical, silicon and software designs for system level solutions using its Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) platform technology. Solutions such as actuators based on SMA wire (which is as thin as a human hair) can be controlled to the accuracy of the wavelength of light. These actuators are particularly suited to applications that require high levels of precision and force, in a compact and lightweight design.
