Unit Shipments of Cambridge Mechatronics Licensed Soundbars Surge Through the Half Million Mark During Q1 2010
Cambridge, UK, April 23rd, 2010 Cambridge Mechatronics Limited (CML), a leading developer of electronic components and Intellectual Property for precision actuators used in high volume consumer applications, today announced that the 500,000th Soundbar based on its patented Digital Sound Projector™ technology shipped during the first quarter of 2010.
The cumulative retail sales value of audio-visual products using CML's technology is now in excess of $600M. If the year on year growth experienced in a surprisingly strong first quarter is repeated throughout 2010 there is a chance that the $1 Billion milestone should be reached during the same quarter in 2011. This will further consolidate the market leading position of Digital Sound Projector™ based products in the 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound segments of the rapidly growing Soundbar market.
Sales were strong in almost every geographical region, with particular strength experienced in Japan, North America and the Euro Zone. However, the company does admit to being disappointed by sales of CML licensed products in its home country, The United Kingdom. CML will immediately begin a concerted effort to ensure that British public understands that the soundbar products offered by market leaders such as Yamaha, Loewe, Mitsubishi and Grundig are actually based on technology developed in Cambridge. All CML licensed products must display the distinctive "1" logo.
The essence of CML's Digital Sound Projector™ technology is that each of the 5.1 or 7.1 channels is allocated its own sound beam. The beams are directed so that the sound bounces off the walls and ceilings such that it comes to the listener from behind and from the sides, thus providing a truly theatrical surround sound experience. Another component of the Digital Sound ProjectorTM technology is that it can be automatically calibrated for any particular location, taking into account room dimensions and sitting positions. To date, CML has been awarded 23 international patents for inventions related to Digital Sound Projector™ as well as numerous awards for product innovation.
