Inviting Entrepreneurs

Cambridge Mechatronics now has over a decade's experience of taking new inventions to global markets. It has executed licenses and contracts in the UK, Europe, Japan, Taiwan and the USA.

Current key strengths are in consumer electronics and mobile phones, although partners in many different industries are investigating CML's technology platforms.

Cambridge is a centre of innovation and CML are acutely aware that the company thrives off external input. CML has instigated an Innovation Centre to provide a first step for external innovators to discuss actuator ideas and technology with our experts. CML understands the stages from idea creation to market product and will be able to offer our knowledge base as a sounding board to ideas that we can jointly develop.

We understand the importance of intellectual property rights in terms of individual, financial and corporate development. As an innovation lead company we will always treat your intellectual property rights with same respect we demand that others give to our own.

World Class Technology & Expertise

Today the company is a recognised global authority on the application and design of several actuator technologies:

  • Transducer Arrays (Lowest Cost)
  • Piezo-electric Ceramic (World's Lowest Energy)
  • Nickel-Titanium Shape Metal Alloy (SMA) Wire (World's Smallest Size)

The company has a portfolio of 95 granted patents and another 169 in various stages of filing. These combined with the know-how of its 20 technical and scientific staff give the company a unique and valuable collection of intellectual property.

The above expertise and IP has enabled the company to invent and design world leading consumer electronics products such as:

  • 1... Digital Sound Projector™ (1...DSP), a stand-alone surround sound loudspeaker technology
CML's 1... Digital Sound Projector™ technology has been successfully sold to .... manufacturers selling in to the Movie Theatre and Home Cinema markets. Cumulative unit sales are now in excess of 300,000 units and growing, generating over $300M in sales. During 2008 the 1... DSP technology entered the 100,000,000-unit a year Flat Panel TV (FPTV) market The company envisages entry into the Karaoke, Gaming and PC markets from 2009 onwards.
  • Shape Memory Alloy Auto-Focus (SMAA-F), 'Mass-less' actuators for miniature cameras
CML's SMAA-F technology is in the latter stages of its development and should enter into volume production during the first half of 2009. It is currently targeted at the mobile camera phone market, which offers a potential market of an estimated 700 Million units annually, and forecast to grow to 900 Million units by 2011. The SMAA-F actuators are 1 cm long and quarter the thickness of a human hair. This means they take up almost no volume. A much bigger lens that in turn leads to much better photography takes advantage of the freed-up space.
